We have loved going on road trips since we arrived in the USA in 2008. For me, that is definitely a lot about the food. I have loved exploring the local cuisine and one of my aims is to have cooking lessons in each State.
Alabama was the 22nd State to join the Union, on December 14th, 1819.
Its capital is Montgomery.
It enjoys a climate that allows it to grow a variety of foods.

The climate is wonderful for peaches and they are enjoyed all over the State. Although I must be honest and say this is my husbnad and middle son peach picking in TX- I am sure some will think it is very naughty to use the different state, but I love using my own experiences in my blog

Blackberries are such a vibrant colour and a fabulous flavour, that it is a wonderful fruit to use. i love my Blackberry sweet and sour sauce, delicious over vanilla ice cream. They team up well with many things, i especially love them with apples in pies or crumbles.

They are delicious just eating them as they fall, or in pies, ice cream, cakes etc. No end of recipes to use pecans in. They make for a great addition to meat as well, either as a stuffing or crust. Remember to always check if people are allergic to them. Alabama is not the only State to have Turkey as a State food, but it is the game bird of the State. When I was researching recipes for Alabama wild turkey, it was interesting to see the variety, but definitely, turkey fingers and smoked Turkey came up.Here are the recipes

A fun fact that I love about Alabama, because I am a Christmas lover, Alabama was the first state to declare Christmas a legal holiday, in 1836. A holiday that has lots of food as traditions and brings families and friends together. Lane cake is now a traditional cake to be served at Christmas time in Alabama. It is also the State dessert.
Another thing I noticed is there is really quite a lot of recipes using bourbon, so although it is not the State drink- I am thinking maybe it is the unofficial State drink. They ahve many a distillery and each one seems to ahve there own recipes. You can even find recipes using the bourbon on there websites.

The secret here is the ratios of sweet Alabama peach to straight bourbon, giving it Southern fire and sugar.
1/2 coarsely chopped, peeled peach
1 1/2 tsp. turinado sugar
6 Tbsp. -3 oz.- Clyde May’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey
1/4 cup soda water
Place peach and sugar in a cocktail shaker. Muddle the peach into bite-sized chunks. Add bourbon, and swirl. Pour into an Old Fashioned glass filled with ice. Do not strain. Top with soda water.[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_image src=”http://tamzincochrane.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/souther-peach-cocktail.jpg”][/et_pb_image][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ parallax=”off” parallax_method=”on”][et_pb_comments][/et_pb_comments][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section][et_pb_section fb_built=”1″ fullwidth=”on”][/et_pb_section]
